How Do I Size VDI Desktops and RDS Session Hosts?

Applies to: Nerdio For Azure (NFA) Professional and Enterprise customers only

Microsoft Azure allows for multiple combinations of vCPU, vRAM and in some regions GPU. It's important to test and benchmark client applications to determine the right sizing for all VDI desktops and RDS hosts.

During the initial provisioning process, Nerdio creates a single VDI desktop and RDS Session host. Both desktop and RDS server, are spun up as a B2ms instance. Azure's B2ms VM includes 2 cores with 8GB memory and supports SSD drives.

You will be prompted to size the desktop when creating a new VDI desktop user. VDI Desktops can be resized at any time via NAP->Users->Edit User:

RDS hosts can be resized in NAP by going to Servers->VM Size:

 Nerdio Tip

  • Use the NFA Cost Estimator to estimate Azure costs when sizing a desktop or server. Log in to NAP, and select NFA Cost Estimator under Billing.
