How Do I Create and Use On-Ramp Regions?

Applies to: Nerdio For Azure (NFA)  customers

When a Nerdio virtual IT environment is provisioned, all desktops, servers, etc. are located in a single Azure region. This region is referred to as the primary region. It should be physically closest to the location of the majority of desktop users. On-ramp regions allow users to connect to Nerdio desktops in an Azure region that is closest to their location, instead of the primary region. This is particularly useful for users that are located at a branch office in a different country or continent.

NFA accounts no longer require a VPN gateway in order to support on-ramp regions; Azure vnet peering allows seamless network connections between regions.

To add an on-ramp region:

      1. Log in to Nerdio Admin Portal.
      2. Sign into your NFA or NPC account.
      3. Under the Network menu option, click On-ramp regions.
      4. Click button "Add on-ramp region".mceclip1.png
      5. Select the region closest to your non-primary region user group or office and click Confirm.Select_on-ramp-region.png

To move existing users to the new on-ramp region:

      1. Log in to Nerdio Admin Portal as Account IT admin or Account admin.
      2. Click Users menu.
      3. Locate user and click the user's name to edit the user.
      4. Under Desktops, select the "Place in On-Ramp Region" button.
      5. Select the appropriate Region and click Save.

To put new users in on-ramp region:

    1. Log in to Nerdio Admin Portal as Account IT admin or Account admin.
    2. Click Users menu.
    3. Click button "Add user".
    4. Under Desktops, select the "Place in On-Ramp Region" button.
    5. Select the appropriate Region and click Save.

Note: For an NFA Core account, Nerdio doesn't provision RDS Gateway (RDGW01) on creation of an on-ramp region.
