Applies to: Nerdio distributor and partner admins and users created by them
Nerdio offers a unique feature called Enhanced Security to its partners to elevate cloud security for maintaining their NAP accounts. The Enhanced Security feature is Nerdio’s way of implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for securing NAP accounts. By enabling Enhanced security feature, you can add extra layers of protection to your NAP account on top of your login credentials. NAP accounts with Enhanced Security will be authenticated based on the following factors during sign on:
- Your username and password (the first factor—what you know),
- Your IP address from where you are signing into NAP (what you are) and
- An authentication response from a device you own (the second factor—what you have)
Together these multiple factors ensure increased security for your NAP account settings and resources.
- As a NAP admin, you can enable Enhanced Security feature and can restrict access to your account by IP address. Users that log in from a non-whitelisted IP address will be required to go through a two-factor authentication process in order to sign in. A SMS message will be sent with a code that will be required as an input via the portal.
How do I enable Enhanced Security on my account?
Sign in to your NAP account as shown below:
On the Accounts page, from the left-hand menu, expand the Settings drop down and click the Security menu item as shown below:
You will find the Enhanced Security option on the security page as shown below:
By default, the Enhanced Security feature is disabled. Move the Enhanced Security slider to the left to enable the feature as shown below:
You will see a list of IP addresses under the Enhanced Security tab. These are called white-listed IP addresses or the IP addresses trusted by the admin to allow access to NAP. When the Enhanced Security option is ON you can log in to your NAP account only from these whitelisted IP address.
NAP allows you to add/delete the IP address as per your requirement. In order to whitelist multiple IP addresses, you can add them one by one by clicking on the Add button on the screen as shown below:
In case you attempt to log in from a non-whitelisted IP address without registering your phone number on your NAP account, you will get the following error message:
Nerdio won’t allow you to access your account and you will have to contact Nerdio helpdesk to enable your login.
How to register your mobile number on your NAP login?
To avoid getting locked out of your account, and access your NAP from a non-whitelisted IP address, you need to register your mobile number on your account. Following are the steps to register your mobile number on NAP:
Login to your NAP account. Click Manage profile option in the upper right corner, under your name, as shown below:
Enter your mobile in the textbox as shown below:
Click Save button once you are done. Adding your mobile number on your NAP account will ensure that you are able to login to your account from a non-whitelisted IP address. In that case, Nerdio will authenticate you based on the passcode sent to your mobile number.
