How Do I Include/Exclude Users from MFA with SMS Passcode?

Applies to: Nerdio for Azure RDS deployments (NFA) and Nerdio Private Cloud (NPC) users.

Nerdio uses 2FA to secure Nerdio desktops

Nerdio supports two-factor authentication (2FA) to secure access to your Nerdio desktops. Nerdio users who provide their phone number at the time of account creation are automatically enrolled for two-factor authentication. Refer to this KB article for more details.

Nerdio uses "SMS PASSCODE" services to enforce two-factor authentication. The services authenticate users by sending a real-time, session-specific one-time passcode (OTP) to users' mobile phones via SMS and voice-call. Once the OTP has been validated, the user is granted access to their Nerdio desktop. Refer article for more details.

There are two ways you can bypass 2FA on Nerdio desktops.

To exclude Nerdio desktop users from 2FA:

  1. If you are an IT Admin, you can disable two-factor authentication (2FA) setting on your user’s accounts. Log into your user account as an IT admin. From the main menu, select Settings->Security. Under Nerdio Desktops section, turn off the Two-factor authentication (Windows) settings: Disable_2fa_mfa.png
  2. Another way to bypass users from MFA is not to enter their phone number at the time of account creation.

Nerdio uses 2FA to secure M365 accounts

Nerdio is tightly integrated with Microsoft 365 for secure and collaborative working. Nerdio for Azure (NFA) and Nerdio Private Cloud (NPC) customers must be connected to Microsoft 365 accounts. Nerdio uses Microsoft 365 two-factor authentication (2FA) to secure its user accounts. There are two ways you can bypass 2FA for Nerdio M365 user accounts.

To exclude Nerdio M365 users from 2FA:

  1. If you are an IT Admin, you can disable Microsoft 365 two-factor authentication (2FA) setting for each of your user’s Microsoft 365 accounts. Log into your user account as an IT admin. From the main menu, select Settings->Security. Under Nerdio Desktops section, turn off the Two-factor authentication (O356) settings: Disable_mfa_office365.png
  2. Even if 2FA setting is enabled on M365 accounts, Nerdio doesn't enforce it. You can still  bypass 2FA from your accounts. Refer KB article below for detailed instructions: https://help.nerdio.net/hc/en-us/articles/360018974031
